Directions

Reading each class listing carefully for location.
Classes may be held in various venues.
Please notify the webmistress if you see a contradiction in listings about locations, times, etc.

You will be able to get driving, subway, bus, or train directions from your location to the address given for the class at hopstop.com. The School cannot provide step by step directions or recommend a train from your location. If you miss the class because you didn't read the location in the listing, you will not be entitled to a refund.

The School of Burlesque operates in two locations: 440 Studios at 440 Lafayette (just below Astor Place, across from Joe's Pub, a few doors up from The Blue Man Group sign), and The Slipper Room at 167 Orchard at Stanton (one block below Houston). Occasionally other venues will be used and you will receive detailed instructions in an email addressed to the email address from which you used paypal. Usually, however, it is one of these two and and the information is on this webpage concerning the individual class. Ask if you're not sure, but please read the listing carefully before asking. The address of the location is usually in the header on the page that describes the class. Be sure to check the site the day of the class to ensure there have been no changes. One of the studios is being renovated and classes may move (although your ease of access based on the location you expected is assured).

In case you can't tell, we have occasional problems with people who won't read the listings. Don't be one of THOSE people.
However, please notify the webmistress if you see a contradiction in listings about locations, times, etc.

440 Lafayette Studios:
If you are going to 440 Lafayette, please note the number of the studio in which the class is held. The studio name will have a letter and a number in it, such as 3B. If it has a 3 in it, you will go directly to the 3rd floor and find the studio which corresponds to the letter. If it has a 4 in it, you will go to the 4th floor and find the studio which corresponds to the letter. You will come directly to the studio without checking in at a desk or office (unless directed otherwise, which is rare).

167 Orchard Street:
If you get confused, just remember: it's Orchard Street at Stanton, it's a corner building, and there are only two doors, one on Orchard and one on Stanton.
If the gate on the Stanton Street side is closed, the Slipper Room is closed and you will have to round the corner to get to the other door for the class (the School operates when the Slipper Room is closed for bar business, as well as at other times). If the Slipper is closed and you use the Orchard St. side, you will have to knock on the door to enter.
If the Slipper Room is open during the class, enter on the Stanton Street side and ask the doorman where the class is being held.
If the Slipper Room is closed during the hours of the class, you'll enter on the Orchard Street side across from La Cremerie, not the Stanton Street side you use when you enter the bar for a show. If the door is locked, you must knock to enter. If the door says, "Use other door," knock on it anyway--that doesn't apply to registered students, only to bar patrons. If you are late you will have to knock really loudly as class will be in session. Being late for one of these classes will screw up your experience, guaranteed. However, you may not be able to enter more than fifteen minutes early.

Location The Slipper Room is located on the corner of Orchard and Stanton Streets, one block below Houston St., on Manhattan's Lower East Side.
By Cab It's simplest to tell your driver to drop you on the corner of Orchard and Houston Streets. Walk down Orchard St. one block. We're big, we're pink and we'll be on your right.
By Subway The F / V train is the only subway near us. You'll want the 2nd Avenue stop. Make sure you're at the front of the train if coming from uptown, or the back of the train if coming from Brooklyn.
When you get above ground, you'll be on the corner of Houston and Allen Streets. Walk east on Houston one block to Orchard St. Hang a right on Orchard and walk one block. We're big, we're pink and we'll be on your right.
