January/February Workshop

With Headmistress Jo Weldon and NYU Theater Professor Dr. Lukki!

SOLD OUT

Learn how to discover and utilize your personality and identity (and how to find them if you're not sure what they are) to create routines that express your individuality and creativity. This class will include idea generation, incorporating your hidden talents, how to create costumes on the cheap, where to shop (not just in the garment district!), discussions of props, budgets, and more! You'll get homework and handouts. A student recital will follow--and you will be ready to perform! Because Jo is a recognized historian and dance teacher (having learned many of the moves she teaches from the legendary performers of burlesque's golden age), you'll get a firm foundation in burlesque history and you'll feel a part of the incredible heritage that is at the heart of the current burlesque scene.
From Dr. Lukki: "The stage persona can be anything from an extension of self to a fantastic flaming creature and finding your inner queen is an effective way to connect with the audience and tell a story. Through exercises, writing, movement, story telling, and improvisation, this workshop will provide a framework, techniques and the creative space to begin the process of birthing a flamboyant stage persona."

Class series is $200.

Class registration is limited to eight students. If the paypal link below is unavailable, the class is sold out.

This class will take place on site from 7-10 pm on five of the following six dates:
Jan 8, 15, 22, 29, Feb 5, 12
One will be given as a night for a homework assignment.
