Princess Farhana by Don Spiro

This unique class series covers Egyptian-style belly dance suitable for those who want to learn the foundations of dance orientale OR incorporate the distinctive movements of belly dance into burlesque dancing. After a rigorous warm-up, we will cover graceful arms and hands, hip and torso isolations, undulations, rolls, flutters and abdominal work, body waves , shimmies and freezes. You will be introduced to layered movement technique, which will allow you to move every part of your body simultaneously, but at different speeds! We will also cover belly dance combinations, as well as the historical aspects and connections of both belly dance and burlesque. This class is open to dancers of all levels- the technique taught will be thoroughly broken down in clearly in easy-to-understand segments.

Please wear comfortable, form-fitting clothes- whatever you would normally wear to a dance class. You can dance barefoot, in ballet slippers, socks or jazz shoes- your choice .

Princess Farhana has been a professional belly dancer for seventeen years, and a burlesque performer for twelve years, and for the past decade has taught belly dance and burlesque internationally. A veteran of the Velvet Hammer for eleven years, she is now the principle dancer in Margaret Cho’s variety/burlesque revue “The Sensuous Woman”.
