The New York School of Burlesque in Woodstock

Introduction to Burlesque:
Glove Appeal

April 8, 2023, 6-8 pm
MountainView Studio
20 Mountainview Ave, Woodstock, NY 12498

Designed to introduce you to the mood and mode of burlesque!

In this two-hour workshop you’ll learn how to do a seductive and playful burlesque striptease – simply by removing satin gloves (provided)! You’ll be in supportive environment under the expert guidance of Jo Weldon, Headmistress of the New York School of Burlesque and Author of The Burlesque Handbook. Students will be performing for each other in a safe and encouraging space. There will be tips on eye contact, flirting, confidence, and stage presence (whether for the mirror, an intimate audience of one, or a theater of thousands), so even the shyest wallflower can bloom!

Classes are for 18+.

Register using the link below. If you have any questions email schoolofburlesque@gmail.com.

$60 includes red satin opera gloves for you to keep.

There will be movement, but this is not strictly a dance class, so modifications are available for different levels of ability – all bodies are welcome. We will explore sensuality and acting exercises, evoking characters from Jessica Rabbit to Bugs Bunny! While the class employs a femme aesthetic, participants of all genders are welcome. No nudity occurs in this class.

Recommended to wear: comfortable yoga or workout wear such as leggings, shorts, or a leotard, with bare arms, and any shoes in which you can move easily.
Bring: a button down shirt for some of the exercises and a bottle of water for the break.

Diversity statement:
Jo Weldon and all the The New York School of Burlesque instructors respect all gender identities and body types, and strive to be anti-racist in all policies and actions. We are pro-sex-workers' rights and pro-drag-queen. We honor all levels of ability at every age.
There is no accurate burlesque history without diversity.
