These are the same classes as in the Essential Burlesque Series, slightly modified to be available individually.

These classes will take place at 440 Studios at 440 Lafayette St near Astor Place in NYC, Studio number 4C. DO NOT DROP IN. Classes sell out and we bring only enough props for people who have registered. Register by clicking on the add to cart button below in order to ensure your place.

January 16 3.30-5 pm $25 Isolations and
Stripping Out of Street Clothes
It's all about the tease! You'll learn how to make the removal of anything, even a pair of earrings, an unforgettable event for any viewer.
Bring an item of street clothing to learn to strip off. A hoodie, a dress, a hat, or whatever you like. There is no nudity in this class, but some students may choose to go to lingerie.
January 23 3.30-5 pm Strutting and Walking/Fan Dance Basics
Learn how to do a showgirl strut--sexy, sensual, and riveting!
Bring high heels if you like.
Learn the art of fan dance, handling first our small marabou fans and then iconic, glamourous, ostrich feather fans!
January 30 3.30-5 pm Chair Dance Basics/The Art of Peeling
Learn how to do a sassy, stylish chair dance, burlesque-style!
Wear shorts or leggings.
Learn to make peeling a stocking mischeivous and seductive.
You will need bare legs to learn the stocking peels.
Get in touch with the history of sensual, magnetic, powerful women, and become part of that history yourself! Enjoy the sparkle of rhinestones, the flash of fringe, the feathery dreamy drop of a boa...
We've been teaching for years. We know just how to make these moves that may seem intimidating feel natural and make learning how to do those moves like a pro seem like a party! you'll have a great time--but you'll also truly learn burlesque.
It's all about the moves that make burlesque so much fun! You'll be shimmying, peeling, and rocking it, performing an entire burlesque striptease routine in the very first class. Learn AUTHENTIC burlesque! New York School of Burlesque Headmistress Jo Weldon has learned directly from the fierce and fabulous ladies who performed during the magical golden age of twentieth century striptease, and taught these movements, principles and styles to NYSB instructors.
Wear close-fitting comfortable clothing, such as leggings and tees, and bring heels! Other clothing suggestions listed for particular classes.
You do not need to be a performer or planning to perform to take these classes. This series is suitable for beginners, as well as for experienced dancers or other types of performers curious about the language of burlesque.
Classes will take place at 440 Lafayette Studios in Manhattan, studio 4C. You will come directly to the studio to be checked in by the instructor.

Classes may be taught by various teachers.
Some classes sell out in a matter of days. If you are registering with a friend, please register both of you at the same time to ensure that you both get in.
You'll get the basics of the history of burlesque and striptease as an artform, plus you'll hear plenty of stories of how Jo learned each move from each amazing performer. There will be information on costuming, getting gigs, the history of the Burlesque Hall of Fame and burlesque in Coney Island, where to see burlesque shows in NYC, and more!You'll learn techniques for twirling nipple tassels to the left, to the right, in, out, one at a time, and on your back!
This is a great way to learn to structure a costume and compose a burlesque number.
